Driving Innovation Through Sustainable Rail Logistics

Bulkstream is proud to announce the successful commissioning of our Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Edible Oil Loading Station—a major milestone in transforming the transportation of bulk liquid commodities across Kenya and reinforcing our commitment to delivering world-class logistics solutions.

The new facility enables the movement of up to 2,000 metric tonnes of edible oil per day by rail from the Port of Mombasa to Bulkstream's 35,000-metric-tonne Bonded Edible Oil Terminal in Nairobi. This integrated logistics solution provides importers and refiners with a faster, more reliable, and cost-effective supply chain, ensuring efficient product handling from the port directly to inland storage and distribution.

By leveraging rail transport, Bulkstream is helping reduce overall logistics costs, improve supply chain reliability, and enhance the availability of edible oil to refineries and manufacturers. These efficiencies contribute to greater affordability of an essential commodity while strengthening Kenya's food and manufacturing sectors.

The shift from road to rail also delivers significant environmental and social benefits. Transporting bulk edible oil by rail removes hundreds of heavy truck movements from Kenya's highways, easing congestion, improving road safety, reducing road maintenance demands, and significantly lowering carbon emissions. This investment supports Kenya's vision for greener, more sustainable freight transport while promoting long-term economic growth.

The commissioning of the SGR Edible Oil Loading Station, together with our 35,000 MT bonded storage facility in Nairobi, represents another step in Bulkstream's strategy to develop integrated logistics infrastructure that connects the Port of Mombasa with inland markets through efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused transport solutions.

At Bulkstream, innovation is about more than moving cargo—it's about creating smarter supply chains, strengthening regional trade, supporting local industry, and building logistics solutions that create lasting value for our customers, partners, and the communities we serve.

Together, we are moving bulk commodities more efficiently, more sustainably, and helping shape the future of logistics in East Africa.
