Container Freight Station Nairobi: Introducing Bulkstream CFS
On 16 October 2026 we introduced our new container freight station in Nairobi. Bulkstream Inland CFS Nairobi sits beside the Kenya Ports Authority Inland Container Depot (KPA ICD) in Embakasi and handles container and break bulk cargo. The facility is built to international standards and links Kenya’s seaports, by rail and road, to markets across East and Central Africa. For us, it is a new chapter in container and break bulk logistics.
Right next door to ICD Embakasi
ICD Embakasi is one of the inland container depots the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) built to bring port services closer to customers. It is linked directly to the Port of Mombasa by the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the Metre Gauge Railway (MGR) through the railtainer service, with cargo moving on a Through Bill of Lading or under merchant haulage. The modernised depot is equipped for containerised and loose cargo.
Our site also has immediate access to the major arterial roads serving Nairobi and the regional corridors. Kenya Railways describes ICD Embakasi as a critical installation along the Northern Corridor. That corridor links the Port of Mombasa to the Great Lakes region and is managed by the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority, whose member states are Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. KPA figures for 2025, reported by Xinhua, show that transit cargo reached 15.88 million metric tonnes, up from 13.29 million in 2024.
Inside our container freight station in Nairobi
The facility includes:
- Space for up to 2,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), with dedicated zones for imports, for exports and remarshalling, and for empty containers.

- Two 45-ton reach stackers, two 3-ton forklifts and pallet trolleys.

What we do
We work with importers, exporters, freight forwarders and regional distributors, consolidating and deconsolidating their cargo. On the import side, our team takes care of safe unloading, stripping, deconsolidation and verification. Export cargo goes through documentation, stuffing, consolidation and customs export processing. We also offer transit and bonded services, which make handling simpler for cargo moving on through the regional corridors.
For break bulk cargo, we provide racked bulk storage with stock control, support pre-inspection and cargo verification, and can help arrange third-party inspections.
Our One-Stop Regulatory Hub brings processing for all government agencies under one roof, which speeds up inspections and clearance. Free storage periods are negotiable and can be set around your cargo profile and seasonal flows. We cater for the sector-specific requirements of automotive, FMCG, pharmaceutical, electronics, chemical, industrial and manufacturing cargo. You will find full details on our container freight station page.
Part of the wider Bulkstream network

Through Bulkstream Logistics we also provide customs clearance and transport, including direct and indirect clearance of break bulk and containerised cargo, with operations at key port and border points in Kenya and Uganda.
Across our East African hubs, we employ more than 1,000 people. We are certified to ISO 9001:2015 for quality, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety.
